NEW BODY FITNESS 36

GEORGE BAR AND GRILL 29

NEW Body Fitness again built the pressure on leaders Belle Construction with a narrow win over George Bar and Grill.

An even start saw the teams neck and neck to start. Skilful interceptions from New Body’s WD Lauren Waller gave her team a slight edge, allowing them to finish the quarter two goals ahead.

A very close match continued with great shooting from George’s GS Rachel Scarff and New Body’s GS Jodie Howell keeping the score close. Excellent interceptions from New Body GK Lauren Leatherland allowed her team to increase their lead slightly through the mid-periods.

Outstanding defence and attack from both teams made this an exhilarating game to watch, but ultimately it was New Body who walked away with the win.

Division One

CRESTA LEISURE 55

GIRLING & BOWDITCH 40

CRESTA Leisure took their seventh win of the season with a 55-40 triumph over Girling and Bowditch.

In a first quarter that saw both teams easing into their rhythm, evenly matched goals were finally interrupted by Cresta, who managed to intercept and score from Girling’s centre pass. Girling responded with fierce defensive pressure but Cresta’s experienced attack took this in their stride.

Formidable defence of Cresta’s Lucy Astrid (GD) and Olivia May (GK) made it difficult for Girling to gain better position for their shooters. Consequently, Cresta continued to build their lead slowly but consistently through the mid-section of the match.

Girling approached the final quarter with determination to reduce Cresta’s lead. Girling WA Lauren Lindsey executed a cracking turnover, resulting in another goal for her team but despite their best efforts, Cresta managed to maintain their lead and clinch the victory.

Division Two

COASTAL CHEESE 41

WJNC 28

COASTAL Cheese claimed the scalp of second-placed WJNC in a one-sided fixture in Division Two.

Hosts Coastal settled quickly into the game with some great interceptions converted into goals. WJNC’s GK Maisie Fowler and GD Grace Goodwin battled hard which made it difficult for Coastal’s shooters, limiting opportunities to widen their lead.

Both teams made changes during the first break and a more confident looking WJNC came back on court with strong and accurate passes.

Coastal showed excellent defence through the mid-quarters, with shooters Lauren Oates (GS) and Fiona Goldsmith (GA) capitalising to increase Coastal’s lead to 20 goals by the end of the third quarter.

WJNC showed their spirit in the last period, attacking from the first whistle and they managed to reduce Coastal’s lead to 13 goals but were unable to catch them, giving the home side a hard-fought win.
