GUNGHO Marketing ran out comfortable 48-26 winners over Cresta Leisure in Division One.

Both teams came on with great energy and Gungho showed their strength in the midcourt to make some essential early turnovers; confident shooting from Gungho’s Jaimee Browne and Gabby Bennett allowed them to carve out a good lead.

The middle quarters saw tough, fast-paced play. Cresta WA, Kate Sanderson, showed exceptional skill in supporting her shooters – Carolyn Allgood and Sue Woolley – who were able to secure some impressive goals.

However, Gungho continued to dominate, gaining a significant lead going into the final quarter, but Cresta remained determined, making the most of every ball.In the end, though, it was Gungho who walked away with a well-deserved victory.

PREMIER DIVISIONSAINTS SECURITY 26

GW ELECTRICAL 24

SAINTS Security held off a strong finish from GW Electrical to record a narrow 26-24 success in the Premier League.

Saints started strong with great attacking play but GW responded by upping their defensive pressure, making effective use of turnovers to end the quarter one goal ahead.

Play remained even in the middle quarters and in Saints’ goal-third, GA Linzi Gardner battled against strong GW defence, scoring a remarkable long-shot for her team.

This was followed by a string of well-fought goals, giving Saints a small lead. A tactical change by GW saw Elaine Sanderson giving her all at WD, matching the superb energy of Saints’ C, Sarah Garman, who fought fiercely for every ball.

Saints’ WA, Cara Rose, created some crucial scoring opportunities, allowing her team to extend their lead.

Another tactical change by GW saw Hayley Rooks move to WD, showcasing strong, experienced defending, severely limiting Saints’ scoring opportunities.

GW also upped their attack, converting some good goals to bring the scoreline almost even, but Saints remained strong, managing to maintain their lead and claim the victory.

DDBI 30

THERE was also a win for Meraki 37-30 triumph for Meraki over DDBI in Division Two.

The first quarter saw great competitive play in both shooting circles. Meraki’s GD, Sarah Hopkins, made several interceptions, enabling the ball to move to her shooters who were able to carve out a small lead.

DDBI showed great strength in the midcourt – with particularly impressive tactical play from C, Claire Cuerden – although Meraki’s great defensive strategy allowed them to secure some interceptions.

Meraki’s shooting duo, Libby Davies (GS) and Amelie Cobden-Lindsay (GA) worked well to move the ball around the D, taking advantage of scoring opportunities to maintain their team’s lead.

Meraki dominated the court at the start of the final quarter. DDBI’s Kathryn Scott (GD) made some good interceptions, however this was not enough to combat Meraki’s consistently strong play, which ultimately allowed them to claim the victory.

NMP PROPERTY 20

A NAILBITING match in Division Two saw NMP Property emerge 20-19 victors over Basepoint.

NMP made a strong start, thanks to confident shooting from GS, Alice Crocker. Basepoint upped their defence, with GK Christine Jones ramping up the pressure for NMP’s shooters. This allowed Basepoint to flex their attacking muscle and build a small lead.

Basepoint dominated the midcourt in the beginning of the second quarter, thanks to fantastic, controlled passing by C, Zoe Fowler. NMP’s WD, Julie Batten, was able to intercept some key goals to give her team a one-goal lead.

NMP defenders gave their all, determined to prevent Basepoint form scoring. Across court, NMP shooters were able to convert a few goals but Basepoint fought back, with some equally strong shooting, although it was to prove in vain as they fell short by a single goal.
