Red-hot Grill see off the Waterside

GEORGE Bar & Grill claimed a superb win over second-in-the-table Waterside to edge closer to the top three in the Premier Division.

Despite a slow start for both teams, Waterside gathered their energy and pulled away with excellent control of the ball.

Jenny Ayles (WD) and Becky Cousens (GK) worked well to keep the ball away from Waterside’s shooters, which allowed The George Bar and Grill to end the quarter with a convincing lead.

Both teams upped their game in the middle quarters and George showed great tactical skill in the third quarter to create some excellent scoring opportunities, allowing them to lower the score difference significantly.

However, Waterside’s fierce determination shone through, with Kirsty Holmes (GA) using space brilliantly in the circle to secure a three-goal lead.

Both teams gave their all in the final quarter but George were quick to take advantage of Waterside slowing their pace, scoring a string of six goals to take the lead.

Waterside refused to give up, but could not stop the flow of George, who claimed an extremely well-fought victory.

COASTAL CHEESE 28

COASTAL Cheese were comfortably beaten by Wyke Smugglers to see them remain second from bottom with 15 points.

Cheese’s defence worked tirelessly to take possession and get the ball to their shooters.

However, Smugglers’ circle defence worked equally hard to limit Coastal’s scoring opportunities and secure a small lead.

Smugglers came back with renewed determination to widen the score difference.

Shooting duo Tracey Moore (GA) and Elizabeth Courtice (GS) were perfectly in sync, scoring goal after goal to increase Smugglers’ lead. Coastal’s Ellie Stevens (WA) and Anna Mitchell (C) ramped up the pressure in the mid-court, while Adelaide Elsom (GD) made some excellent tips in the circle to prevent scoring opportunities.

Smugglers persevered however, pulling further ahead in the final minutes of the third quarter.

Tactical changes for Smugglers saw Ellie Cumptsey move to GA, increasing her team’s attacking edge. Despite Coastal’s determined efforts across court, Smugglers were able to score 14 goals in the final quarter and earn a convincing victory.

Division Two

BEAMINSTER BRAVES 30

BEAMINSTER Braves swatted aside NMP Property with a valuable win leaving them just one point off top-of-the-table Basepoint.

The first quarter saw some competitive play between these sister teams.

Braves’ GS, Niamh Randall, showed her skill with some impressive long-shots to carve out a small lead for her team.

Braves upped their defence in the middle quarters, GS, Maisie Amos, made fantastic use of rebounds to lower the score difference slightly.

The final quarter saw some determined play from both teams; in the end, however, Braves were able to maintain their lead thanks to consistently accurate shooting by Randall to secure the victory.

ALLWAYS REMOVALS 16

GUNGHO Marketing eased past Allways Removals for a one-sided win in this top against bottom-of-the-table clash in Division One.

Gungho made a confident start, with fantastic use of space and accurate passing across court.

Allways took some time to find their rhythm, and Gungho took full advantage of this to create a 16-0 score difference.

Allways came back with clear determination to score an early goal; however, Gungho continued to dominate the court.

Allways’ GD Gilly Woodsford made some good interceptions, however, Gungho’s Gabby Bennet (GD) and Skyla Erskine (GK) ensured Allways were unable to capitalise on this.Gungho showed fantastic tactical play, with each person knowing exactly where to be to get the ball across the court smoothly. Allways’ Becky Warland (GA) worked hard to win possession and score some last-minute goals.

Gungho made some tactical changes in the final quarter, which allowed them to further increase their lead and claim a spectacular victory.
